I Watched It For You: ‘Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor’
Compared to other movies of well-known director and actor, Tyler Perry, this film is at the least, shocking and unpredictable.
The film, like several of Perry’s other films, originated from his 2008 stage play, “The Marriage Counselor”.
A marriage counselor, Judith, played by Jurnee Smollet-Bell, is in a session with a client when she takes her mind back a few years and reminiscences on the story of her and childhood sweetheart, Brice, played by Lance Gross. The couple, married for 6 years, reside in Washington, D.C. where Brice is a pharmacist at a family owned drugstore.
Judith works as an in-house therapist for high-end matchmaker, usually known as a ‘millionaire matchmaker’, Janice, who is played by Vanessa Williams. In Judith’s high class place of business we also have her co-worker Ava, played by Kim Kardashian, who’s only purpose it seems is to ask Judith what discount clothing brand she wears to the office each day.
Then we meet Harley, Mr. Home wrecker himself, a snazzy social-media tycoon played by Robbie Jones. Though Harley did not come to the ‘millionaire matchmaker’, Janice, for a date but rather to invest, it seems that he got a slight bit more out of the deal.
After a few weeks of flirting and getting further acquainted the storyline becomes very fascinating. Soon, Harley and Judith are gone down a long road of sex, drugs, and lies, which lead to broken hearts and reopened emotional wounds.
Despite the ending, which was kind of depressing, film and the acting (including Kim Kardashian even though her role probably was not necessary) was phenomenal. I am giving Temptation an A+ it is undeniably a must-see.
